Control Rods

Flight Control Rods are the mechanical linkages between the pilot and the control surfaces that maneuver the aircraft. Control Rods must be designed to withstand fatigue loading as well as static loading. Normally a control rod is designed to a predetermined ultimate static load with the understanding that the rod will experience an undetermined fatigue load. Historically, the fatigue load associated with control rods is approximately only ten percent or less the design static load. Because of this fact, control rods are chiefly designed with aluminum alloys utilizing stainless steel inserts. This configuration is by far the most cost to weight effective while exhibiting excellent fatigue strength.
